Day 18

Monday May, 21th 2019 For the last day of senior project we thought be right to finish on the beach. So Chloe and traveled to back to Hampton beach. We walked the entire length of the beach and Chloe and I both had our own bags. This was the first time we were able to walk the entire length. We reward our self by getting some lunch. We learned that they were using straws that were made from plants and forks and knives from recycled material. It was a great way to end our senior project. Over all we worked for 4 hours today.

Day 17

Monday May, 20th 2019 Although Chloe and I finished our 50 hours we did not finish our last art project. So that's what we did today. It was yet another day of getting my fingers glued to everything in sight. We finally were able to finished and are so please with the way it turned out. Once we finished Chloe and I made a interactive guessing game for express fest. We are eager to show people our art and tell everyone of our success. Lastly, we emailed our mentor about the finishing touches of our project. Chloe and I worked a total of 2 hours today.

Weekly Reflection

Week three is coming to an end and I can’t believe how fast it went by. This week Chloe and I went to two beaches in one day, but we worked for a total of 5 hours. Our schedule was a bit messed up because we had a cancelled game at the last minute. So chloe and I need to schedule the our beach days. We went to the beach on Wednesday after our practice. Since our practice was early we knew we were in no rush. Once we go to the shore we started at salisbury beach. Chloe and I walked a whopping 4 miles there. It was two miles down the beach and two miles back. Once we were finished at that beach we went back to Hampton Beach to see if there was more trash that was collected there or if there was anything we missed. Fortunately,  we did not find much trash there. Wednesday was a great day because we also got to see some friends that were staying close by. The other days we have been working on our second art piece. This project is a lot more labor intensive then the last one. It involves

Day 16

Friday May 17, 2019 Yet another great day of hard work. Chloe and I continued on our second art project. This project is a lot harder then the last one. There as so many components that we need to consider. There as so many different color scheme and not enough trash. So Chloe and i will need to go through some other bags to find good pieces to clean for the project. If we can’t find good ones we will go to another beach. We are planning to finish within the next few days. Chloe and I are really talking our time with our art to get the best out come as possible, but we wish we had more time to perfect it. So far I am confident we will be done in time with a good outcome. We plan to continue our art work to finish for express fest. We worked a total of 2 hours today.

Day 15

May 16th, 2019 Today was an art day for Chloe and I. We continued working of the project that involved the soda cans. The project is consuming more time than we expected because of all the small cuts in the cans. We have also experienced how hard it is to work with crazy glue. I find my fingers will get stuck to the cans, the canvas, and I will even get my fingers stuck together. Today we were able to finish working with the blue cans and we moved on to orange and yellow trash today. We are very please with the way our project is turning out so far. We plan to continue our art work tomorrow. Chloe and I plan on continuing going through the trash we cleaned to keep adding to the canvas. We worked a total of 2 hours today.

Day 14

May 15th, 2019 Since there was no sign of snow or rain today Chloe and I made it down to the shore. We had an early practice and then headed over to the beach. It was quite a long day. We started at Salisbury beach which was a lot larger than we expected. We walked about halfway before we got pretty hungry and went for a quick snack. By the way Salisbury just under 4 miles long so chloe and I walked 2 miles down and 2 miles back and managed to pick up a decent amount of trash. After we got some food and took a quick bathroom break we decided to go back to Hampton beach for a second walk through. We didn’t find as much trash there, but that tells us we did a good job the first time around. Chloe and I also found some great piece of trash to use for our project. We also were able to meet up with some friends and we went out to dinner together before chloe and I went back to school. Tomorrow we plan to use some of the trash we found to continue our art statement. Chloe and I worked a t

Day 13

May 14th, 2019 Today's forecast start out a light snow slowly transitioning into rain. So Chloe and I decided to keep the creative juices flowing and keep working on our art project. This means Chloe and I cut up more trash and sorted through it by color. We mainly worked with blue colored cans today. Next we reached out to our mentor to keep her updated with our progress. We explained our last weeks work and this weeks plans. We also shared with her our first completed art piece and we were relieved when she told us she was impressed. Tomorrow Chloe and I plan to head back to the beach to clean as much trash as possible. We worked for a total of three and a half hours today.

Day 12

May 13th, 2019 It was a great day today. Chloe and I were extremely focused today and were able to start two more printings. We have found we work best when we take turns painting different parts. We have learned the first art piece and have found that the canvas is to small for both us to do what we want at the same time. So today Chloe and I found it best the we start two new projects. She painted the outline for our next project while I research a plan for our need beach we should travel to. I found a beach in Massachusetts called Newburyport that we will go on Wednesday or Thursday depending on the weather. Once the outline was done Chloe and I talked about how we want to utilize the trash in the most productive way possible. We had such great success with the last one that we hope this one will turn out just as nice. We worked for a total of three and a half hours today!

Weekly Reflection

The week the weather was very inconsistent, but we didn’t let that stop us from doing our work. Weather is was raining of the sun was shining we were always outside working. Overall I am extremely proud of the work we did this week. Chloe and I started the week by cleaning the a preparing the trash for one of our larger art pieces. We sat in the blazing sun on Chloe’s birthday sifting through the pieces of trash that were clean enough to use. Next, we were able to make it over to the Rye beach on a nice sunny day and we were able to walk the entire length of the beach twice (all the way down and back). We were able to watched the surfers enjoy the cold water and the were waves larger then I had ever seen. We were surprised to see the how many people were out and about on the beach. After marveling over the beach town, Chloe pointed out to me a flaw that could possible help the trash on the beaches. In all of the beaches we have went to she noticed there there were little to no trash ca

Day 11

May 10th, 2019 Chloe need to go home so she and I decided to divide and conquer. I spent the day creating a slideshow for express fest. I started out by explaining what our senior project is and our motive behind our work. Next I told our plans behind the art pieces. I also used picture of the beaches we went to. Then I decided to do more research on trash in the ocean. I did most of my research on The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Once I leaded about the land of trash it was hard to stop researching the damage. For example, did you know that this mass is twice the size of Texas or that as of right now there is 1.8 trillion prices of plastic the garbage patch. It is estimated to weigh 80,000 tons. After reading this statistic I wondered how this will and has been affecting the marine life. I learned that The marine life is now mistaking plastic and trash as their food ultimately leading to change in behavior, health issues, and their existence. Overall I worked for three hours.

Day Ten

May 9th, 2019 It was yet another bright and sunny day. Chloe and and wouldn’t have wanted to spend it any other way. We are so close to finishing our first art piece. So far it's coming along better then we had anticipated. We finished the final touches on the letters and paint a nice blended sea. Lastly, we started to glue our straws onto the canvas We wanted to take a quick break so chloe and I went for a walk which turned into picking up trash around campus. We felt it was only right to take part on our own proctors earth day activities. It was so great spending so much time outside in the fresh air. Chloe and I worked for a total of three hours today.

Day Nine

May 8th, 2019 It was another sunny beautiful day. Today, Chloe and I started our art piece for express fest. We felt that we were done practicing and went for the real one. Fortunately, we have extra canvases as a backup option. Our first art piece has to do with straws. So Chloe and I put together all of the straws we collected from restaurants and from the beaches for our project. We were shocked by the amount we collected. We created our art piece to spread awareness the harmful effects straws have on the sea turtles environment. It is is nice to finally see our hard work paying off. Chloe and I work for a total of three hours today.

Day Eight

May 7th, 2019 Chloe and I made our way to Rye beach today. The weather was spectacular, the sun was out and the beach was crowded for a Tuesday. Being on the sunny beach got rid of  any remaining winter blues. As Chloe and I stepped out of the car we were instantly hit with the smell of the salty waves. I couldn’t have ask for a better day. We picked up so much trash while being able to watch surfers enjoy the water. We were able to walk the entire length of the beach. After a long day in the sun we went to get some lunch from a local restaurant called The Beach Plum (the food was great). While there we were please to see yet another local store by the beach selling the reusable straws. This time we decided to buy some. What was unique about the straws we bought was the money went to a foundation to save the sea turtles. Overall chloe had one of our more successful days today. I hope everyday from here on out will be just as sunny. Chloe and I worked for a total of 4 hours today.

Day Seven

May 6th, 2019 19 years ago a one of my best friends was born. As part of her birthday present I let her choose our course of action today. She need to decide whether we were going to go to a beach or clean and cut the trash from out last excursion. The weather was bright and shining so chloe had decided she wanted to do art outside on the turf. In addition to our art project I drove to colonial pharmacy to buy a better pair of scissors then I have been using and came across these bracelets called 4ocans. It is a company made by two surfers that are extremely passionate about cleaning the oceans. They created bracelets made from recycled material and made all proceeds to cleaning up trash in the ocean. By purchasing one bracelet 4ocean will remove one pound of trash. I made the decision to buy one of the bracelets for Chloe’s birthday because it only seems fitting. Chloe and I worked a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes. Tomorrow we will be traveling to another breach for a fun filled d

Weekly Reflection

For the weather being against us for the entire week, Chloe and I learned how to be easy going with our schedule. We learned that in order for our experience to be accommodating to our final project we need to take advantage of each sunny day that we have. Even though this week the weather did play in our favor we did find windows of time where we were able to attend a couple beaches. While at the beaches we worked carefully and methodically to collect all trash. We soon realized, at the first beach we visited, that we were going to have to be conscientious with the trash after we came across a copious amount of needles. It was eye opening to see how a beach I have so many fond memories at could also be a place where people go to get high. The first beach we went to I knew I was doing something great to help my community, but at the same time I felt a deep sadness for our community. This experience helped me prepare myself for everything else to come my way in our upcoming adventur

Day Six

May 4th, 2019 The sun was finally out today, and Chloe and I had no obligations. There was absolutely no stress whatsoever. We decided to get a nice delicious take out lunch and head to Elkins Beach on pleasant lake. This was probably my favorite day so far because a few of our other friends had joined us. They agreed to help us pick up the trash around the beach. After eating, we divided up to cover more ground. It was great to see our friends help us out with such a great cause. After we all hung out on the rocks as we watched one of our friends attempt to go swimming in the freezing water. My friends and I made a small impact on a local beach and made some big memories today. Chloe and I work for an hour today.

Day Five

April 3rd, 2019 As we head into day 5, the weather continues to be a big issue. Thankfully we are two independent, resourceful young women who managed to make the most out of our day. Chloe and I decided to stay inside and start cutting up the cans, bottles, and bags. We handled the cans with care because it was extremely sharp when you cut it up. We divided the trash up by color, sizes, and shapes. Next we started to place them down on our canvas. We tried many different ways of organizing our art project until we found one we liked. It was a great way to make the most of a rainy day. Lastly, we reached out to our mentor to update her on our success this week. Depending on the weather tomorrow Chloe and I will return to Hampton to explore more beaches there. If the weather does not corporate then Chloe and I plan to stay local. We worked a total of 3 hours today.

Day Four

Image
May 2nd 2019 Today Chloe and I ventured to Hampton beach. It’s a very unique beach that is surrounded by a cement wall to help flooding when the water is at high tide. We went to two different beach’s and picked up as much trash as we could before the rain picked up. We decided to to seek shelter from the rain and get some lunch. While at lunch we noticed the restaurant used eco friendly straws. We were so impressed with the restaurants contribution to earth that it made us question what other restaurant are doing it. We decided from here on out when we eat out to pay attention to whether or not a restaurant uses plastic straws, reusable straw, or no straws at all. Chloe and I made the executive decision to go to Cinnamon Rainbows Surfing Co. because we couldn’t go to Hampton Beach without going to our favorite store. While there we noticed they were selling reusable straws. I asked the cashier about them and she could not stop raving about how happy she is that they are selling th

Day Three

May 1st, 2019 Today was a nice relaxing day compared to the past two days. We enjoyed a nice breakfast and discussed how we went to go about our art project. We plan to separate the clean trash we pick up by color and and plan on where we went each piece of trash. We also used pinterest to create more ideas for our project. Next, we went to slocume and started to paint prototypes to get a picture of how we want our designing to look. We created something called a mood board, it’s to create a picture collage to help generate ideas. Often interior designers will use a mood board to show a buyer the different types of outcomes. We decided to use the same method to show different ideas on how we want to get our message across to our viewers. Lastly, we discussed our plan for our big day trip for tomorrow. We spent an hour generating ideas, looking on pinterest, and creating our mood board. Then we spent two hours in slocume creating the prototypes. It was a great day in preparation fo
