Weekly Reflection


Week three is coming to an end and I can’t believe how fast it went by. This week Chloe and I went to two beaches in one day, but we worked for a total of 5 hours. Our schedule was a bit messed up because we had a cancelled game at the last minute. So chloe and I need to schedule the our beach days. We went to the beach on Wednesday after our practice. Since our practice was early we knew we were in no rush. Once we go to the shore we started at salisbury beach. Chloe and I walked a whopping 4 miles there. It was two miles down the beach and two miles back. Once we were finished at that beach we went back to Hampton Beach to see if there was more trash that was collected there or if there was anything we missed. Fortunately,  we did not find much trash there. Wednesday was a great day because we also got to see some friends that were staying close by. The other days we have been working on our second art piece. This project is a lot more labor intensive then the last one. It involves a lot of cutting of little piece of trash like cans and bottles. There are several sections of the project and each section is a different color scheme. The different sections make it hard to find the specific pieces of trash. The means Chloe and I needed to go through the trash that we cleaned to find the specific colors that work. Unfortunately, we didn’t find all of the pieces we needed in our dirty piles of trash. Another challenge is using the crazy glue to attach the pieces to the canvas. The glue is extremely hard to work with. I am having a hard time using the glue because I always manage to get either my fingers glued to the trash or i’ll even get my fingers glued to each other. The second art piece is looking so good and I can’t wait to show them at express fest. We have been keeping our projects a secret for so long that we can't wait to unveil them. I can’t believe we are in our final days of senior project let alone my senior year.

Day Two

April 30th 2019- Today was another successful day, Chloe and I woke up around 8:30 and got to Highland Lake beach around 9. We parked got out rubber gloves on and got to work. When we got there we were shocked by the amount of trash that was all over the grass, beach, and woods. We had two different bags that we separated from trash and recycling/ what we need for our art project. We were overwhelmed with the amount of beer cans and cigarette butts we found all over the beach. There was trash so deep in the woods, but Chloe and I managed to get as much as we could out. Sadly, we hit a rough patch when we had come across a lot of heroin needles. Luckily , we were extremely cautious and handled them with care. Next we came back to campus to clean off the trash for our project. I almost had a heart attack when a massive spider crawled out from one of Chloe's cans. Day One

April 29th, 2019 For our first day Chloe and I sat down at breakfast where we overlooked our plans for the upcoming weeks.We came up with our plan for which beaches we will be visiting along with making a list of art supplies. We then drove to Michaels in West Lebanon to get art supplies for the visual portion of our project. On the trip to Michaels we called our mentor, Clarissa, and discussed our plans for cleaning up beaches three times each week. Then we figured out the logistics in regards to how we will form our art pieces. Finally she gave us advice on how to keep our audience engaged during express fest. We also made a plan with Clarissa where we will FaceTime with her during the week to update her and show her our progress.It was overall a successful day of preparation for the upcoming weeks. Chloe and I worked for a total of four hours today.

Day Seven

May 6th, 2019 19 years ago a one of my best friends was born. As part of her birthday present I let her choose our course of action today. She need to decide whether we were going to go to a beach or clean and cut the trash from out last excursion. The weather was bright and shining so chloe had decided she wanted to do art outside on the turf. In addition to our art project I drove to colonial pharmacy to buy a better pair of scissors then I have been using and came across these bracelets called 4ocans. It is a company made by two surfers that are extremely passionate about cleaning the oceans. They created bracelets made from recycled material and made all proceeds to cleaning up trash in the ocean. By purchasing one bracelet 4ocean will remove one pound of trash. I made the decision to buy one of the bracelets for Chloe’s birthday because it only seems fitting. Chloe and I worked a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
